Simple face detection

Cross correlation an image I took with my friends while out in Harveys with with an image kernel that represents eyes and nose. The resulting cross correlation image has dark regions that likely refer to the eyes and noses of the faces in the image.

Sample picture: Me and my friends at Harveys in Llandudno

Resulting correlated image. Dark regions show good correlation.

1. Convert to grayscale

2. Lighten the image

Image correlation using this image kernel of the eyes and nose.

Resulting correlated image. Dark regions show good correlation.

Problems:

1. Original image should be clearer for a better result.

2. The method is not automatic because the surrounding objects can also have good correlation with the kernel resulting in interference.
